Membership Obligations

For over 50 years, the Saybrook Garden Club (SGC) has relied on the dedication of our members to make our community fun and engaging. We host a variety of social events and maintain the aesthetic, communication, and welcoming presence of our neighborhood.

To keep these beloved traditions alive, we require all SGC members to join a committee. Being part of a committee is a fantastic way to meet your neighbors and contribute to our club's success.

Explore the positions within our board and our current committees below to help you choose when becoming a member or renewing your membership!

Committees

  • Salad Supper (Annual Club Members Event): End of summer kickoff for the upcoming Saybrook Garden Club year. Pick up drinks/supplies and set up/clean up.
  • Saybrook Cares (Ongoing): Engage youth (ages 13-18) in community service projects.
  • Beautification (Ongoing): Schedule landscaping and holiday lighting at the entrances on 12th and 14th Streets and 'beautify' the flower beds, as needed, via weeding and watering.
  • Bouquet of Cheer (Ongoing): Welcomes new residents to the neighborhood with a newsletter, directory, and a plant.
  • Ice Cream Social (Annual Neighborhood Family Event): Pick up supplies and serve ice cream at Beebe Playground for the kids and families.
  • Book Sale (Annual Fundraiser): Collect and sell gently used books.
  • Hayride and Bonfire (Annual Neighborhood Family Event): Schedule hayride/Halloween event with the Park District. Pick up food/drinks, craft supplies, and set up/clean up.
  • Trivia Night Fundraiser (Annual Fundraiser): Coordinate venue and Trivia provider. Collect payments, organize teams, and set up raffles.
  • Christmas Tea (Annual Women's Event): Find a neighborhood house to host, design and distribute invitations, help set up/clean up at the host house, organize food donations by members, and pick up drinks/supplies.
  • Easter Egg Hunt (Annual Neighborhood Family Event): Pick up candy/toys, stuff eggs, and set up the Easter Egg Hunt at Beebe Playground for kids ages 2–10.
  • Girls' Night Out (Quarterly Club Members Event): Also known as GNO. Organize social events and activities for women.
  • Progressive Dinner (Annual Club Members Event): This is the biggest annual event. Plan the theme/menu, pick up ingredients, assemble meal kits, assign a progression of houses to participants, and set up/clean up at the cocktail and dessert houses.
  • Block Captains (Ongoing): Help distribute newsletters and invitations to their block. Notify the Board of moves or life happenings of neighbors on their block.
  • Food Donations/Helping Hands (On Call): You might be asked to make a dish for an event or help with something on an ad hoc basis.
